PHISING(EMAIL PHISING) AND HOW TO PREVENT IT

Phishing according to wikipedia is the attempt to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money), often for malicious reasons, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.
Email Phising
This is the act of sending email to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used in identity theft.
The email directs the user to visit private websites where they are asked to update personal information such as passwords, bank number, credit card, passport phone number etc that the legitimate organisation already has.
Phising scam could be
Emails inviting you to join a social group asking you to login using your username and password.
Emails saying that your bank account is locked and that you should sign into your account to unlock it.
Emails containing some Information on you interest and asking you to login to your account.
Any email carrying a link to click and asking you to login

HOW TO PREVENT PHISING
There are many ways by which one can prevent phishing. here are some of them
Read all emails carefully and check if the sender is original
Watch the link carefully before clicking
Always check the URL(Website address)
Always login to your account after opening the trusted website and not by checking in another website or email.

There is an ongoing security breach on facebook where a user's account can be manipulated by a hacker and be used to post links(especially adult contents) or articles against the account owner's wish. THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING A LAPTOP

Sometimes one may wonder what makes a laptop of almost same size and shape possess different prices. The following things that I am about to list determine the price and quality of a laptop and are also necessary to be evaluated before one purchases a laptop for use.
1. Hard disk size: The size of the hard disk varies and also affects the price at which a system is sold. Laptops come with different sizes of hard disks. The hard disk is the space available for storage on the laptop. The commonest hard disk sizes include 150gigs(gbs), 320 gigs(gbs), 500 gigs, 750 gigs, 1000gigs which is also referred to as 1 terabyte( 1 Tb) and so on.

2. RAM. RAM stand for Random Access Memory. It is actually a place where information is temporary kept while the laptop is working. This means that the higher the RAM of a laptop the faster the laptop. The commonest RAM sizes present in laptops include 1 gig, 2gigs, 4 gigs, 6 gigs etc.
3. Processor type : The processor as the name goes can simply be seen as part of the computer's brain. Different processors are available. The commonest ones are Intel processor and AMD processor. Intel has different brands and they include ; Intel Atom, Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium and Intel Core. Intel Core is the best followed by Pentium before Celeron and atom. Intel processors are preferred to AMD because AMD processors heat up faster. AMD processors are good for gamming purpose since they usually come with higher graphic features.
4. Processor speed. This is self explanatory. A processor speed of 2.0 ghz(giga hertz) cannot be compared to a processor speed of 1.8 ghz. The higher the processor speed the better the device.(Faster)
5.The system architecture: By architecture I am talking about the system having a 64bit architecture or 32 bit architecture. A 64 bit archi system is better and faster. Another good thing about this is that you can always downgrade a 64 bit archi system to 32 bit but using a 32 bit (x86) version of windows but you can possibly move a 32 bit archi type to 64 bit.
6. Webcam :This also affects the price of laptops though almost all systems now come with CAM.
7. Bluetooth: This affects the price of systems. Those with internal Bluetooth are better than those that will need a Bluetooth adapter to work.
8.WLAN : This is called wireless Local Area Network (Wireless LAN )
In summary an average system user will require a system with the following features
Hard disk of 500gbs and above, RAM of 4 gigs and above, Processor speed of 2.0ghz and above, Processor type Intel pentium or core, WLAN, Bluetooth and Webcam and an archi of 64 bits. If you ask me my brand, a maa say "hp" or "dy" when you invert and read from behind. lol

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUBSCRIPTION AND UPDATE ON AN ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE

A subscription according to Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is an amount of money you pay usually once a year to renew a copy or copies of something. In this case it can be said to be the money paid to use the antivirus for a particular period of time. This can be for a year, two or more. The number of years for which the user subscribed to the antivirus is usually shown on the GUI( Graphical User Interface)of the antivirus counting down to zero. When you subscription expires, the whole antivirus function shut down.
An update according to Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary means to make something more modern by adding new parts. In an antivirus, updating it downloads and incorporates latest antivirus definitions ( Defence Mechanism) into the antivirus in question. This will help protect you against newly discovered viruses.
Here is an analogy to drive my point home. What we described above is like paying for a house rent and renovating the house after sometime. You pay a house rent to stay in the house for 2 years( You just subscribed to use the house for 2 years). When you renovate the house after 1 year of your stay there to make it look like the other houses(You just updated the house)
Note: Anti-viruses are meant to be updated daily. This is because newer viruses are programmed on daily basis and antivirus companies discover them and bring up solutions which you can only get by updating your antivirus.
